Marinello Trial Delayed Until Fall

May 9, 2008, 3:18 PM CDT

METAIRIE — A Jefferson Parish judge delayed the murder trial of former broadcaster Vince Marinello until September 15th. Marinello was slated to stand trial Monday.

Marinello's trial was moved to Lafayette, after his attorneys argued pre-trial publicity would prevent him from receiving a fair trial. Marinello is accused of fatally shooting his wife Mary Marinello as she left an appointment on Metairie Road.

The case was widely covered by television news stations and the Times-Picayune, because of the high-profile suspect and the circumstances under which it occured.

Earlier this week, Marinello's attorneys filed for a delay, saying they hadn't had time to review new evidence presented by the Jefferson Parish district attorneys.
